To change or remove the power-on password (user password)
1 2 Turn on the computer. If the screen does not appear, restart the computer and press the F2 key several times when the VAIO logo appears. Press the < or , key to select Security to display the Security tab, select Set User Password, and then press the Enter key. On the password entry screen, enter the current password once and a new password twice, and then press the Enter key. To remove the password, leave the Enter New Password and Confirm New Password fields blank and press the Enter key. Press the < or , key to select Exit, select Exit Setup, and then press the Enter key. At the confirmation prompt, press the Enter key.

Setting the Windows Password
To add the Windows password
1 2 3 4 5 6 Click Start and Control Panel. Click Create a password for your account under Make changes to your account. In the New password and Confirm new password fields, enter the password for your account. Click Create password.

To change the Windows password
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Click Start and Control Panel. For safety reasons this computer only functions with genuine Sony battery packs designed for this model. If an unauthorized battery pack is installed, the battery pack will not be charged and the computer will not function. Do not expose the battery pack to any mechanical shock, such as dropping it on a hard surface. If you are not using your computer for an extended period of time, remove the battery pack from the computer to prevent damage to the battery pack. If you have not used the battery pack for a considerable amount of time, the remaining battery life may become short. The battery pack will gradually discharge over time even while not in use. Connect the AC adapter to your computer and recharge the battery pack before using the computer again.
