Ready the Camera
Hold the camera steady in both hands, keeping your fingers and other objects away from the lens, built-in flash, AF-assist illuminator, and microphone.
Frame a Picture Step 3 Frame the subject near the center of the monitor or viewfinder. Modify composition by using the zoom control to zoom in for a close-up of the subject, or zoom out to include more of the background.

The Zoom Control Rotate the zoom control to g to zoom in on the subject so that it fills a larger area of the frame. Rotate the zoom control to f to zoom out, increasing the area visible in the frame.

Press the shutter-release button halfway, stopping when you feel resistance.
In A (auto) mode, the camera automatically focuses on the subject in the center focus area. Focus and exposure remain locked while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. With the shutter-release button pressed halfway, check the AF lamp and flash lamp.
