For Your Safety
To prevent damage to your Nikon product or injury to yourself or to others, read the following safety precautions in their entirety before using this equipment. [. . . ] · If the camera recognizes a person's face, the self-timer lamp (A 4) blinks. Just after the shutter is released, the self-timer lamp blinks rapidly. · Each time the shutter is released, the camera again begins face recognition and smile detection operations for continuous automatic shooting.

When using Smile mode, auto off (A 94) will turn the camera off if no operations are performed in the following situations: · The camera does not recognize any faces. · The camera recognized the face but cannot detect a smiling face.

Face Priority and Smiling Face Detection features
When the camera is pointed at a person's face (front view) in the smile mode, the face is automatically recognized and the smiling face of the recognized person is detected. · In some shooting conditions, face recognition does not work and faces cannot be detected. · See "Face Priority" (A 22) for more information about Face Priority.

Operation of Shutter-Release Button
Press the shutter-release button to shoot pictures. · When Face priority takes effect, the focus is locked on the recognized face and the shutter is released. · When the Face priority doesn't take effect, the camera focuses on subject in center of frame.

Available Functions in Smile Mode
· Settings can be changed for Flash mode (A 28) and Exposure Compensation (A 32). · Pressing the d button in the smile mode can change the image mode (A 71). Changes made to these settings apply to all shooting modes (except movie mode). · Digital zoom is not available.

Viewing Multiple Pictures: Thumbnail Playback
Press f (h) in full-frame playback mode (A 24) to display pictures in "contact sheets" of thumbnail images. The following operations can be performed while thumbnails are displayed.

To Choose pictures

Description Press the multi selector H, I, J or K. Press f (h) to change the number of frames displayed from 9 16 25, or display the calendar. When the calendar is displayed, you can select images to view based on the day they were taken (A 47). While 9 frames are displayed, press g (i) again to return to full-frame display mode. Press the shooting mode button.

When displaying 25 thumbnail frames in playback mode (A 46), switch to calendar display by pressing f (h). Days containing pictures have a yellow line under them.

· Pictures taken when the camera's date is not set are treated as pictures taken on January 1, 2009. · The l and d buttons are not available during calendar display.

Taking a Closer Look: Playback Zoom
Pressing g (i) during full-frame playback mode (A 24) zooms the current picture, with the center of the picture displayed in the monitor. · The guide displayed in the right bottom in the monitor will show which part of the image is currently displayed. The following operations can be performed while pictures are zoomed in.
To Zoom in Use g(i) Description Press g (i) to enlarge view of picture currently displayed in monitor, up to about 10×.
