Windows Essential Business Server Deployment Overview To successfully deploy Windows EBS, follow these six steps: 1. Plan how to integrate Windows EBS into your current networking environment. Configure features and migrate key server roles and services to the computers running Windows EBS. 5 Important You can perform all of the deployment steps except for the Security Server installation during normal business hours. Internet connectivity is temporarily disrupted during the Security Server installation when network connections are changed. We recommend that you plan the Security Server installation during the least critical time for Internet availability. Planning Wizard Installation Wizard for the Management Server Installation Wizard for the Security Server Installation Wizard for the Messaging Server Guided Configuration and Migration Tasks page Windows Essential Business Server Installation Discs The tools and wizards that you use to prepare, plan, and deploy Windows EBS are provided on the installation discs. 6 Disc Purpose Disc 1 Use to install the Preparation Wizard and Planning Wizard. Use this tool when the Management Server Installation Wizard detects that an Active Directory schema upgrade is required. Disc 2 Disc 3 Disc 4 Note Use to install the Management Server software. Use to install the Messaging Server software. The Windows EBS installation discs comprise the physical media required for installing Windows Essential Business Server Standard. Windows Essential Business Server Premium has additional media (not listed) for installing Windows Server® 2008 Standard and Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Standard on a separate computer. Deploying Windows Essential Business Server Step-by-Step Windows EBS is a tightly integrated solution comprised of server software on three separate servers configured to provide optimal performance while following best practices. You must follow the step-by-step deployment process and allow sufficient time to prepare and plan how you want to integrate the Windows EBS components. We recommend starting this activity at least three to eight weeks before you plan to install the software, depending on the complexity of your environment. Installing and configuring Windows EBS can usually be accomplished in two or three days. While some configuration tasks need to be accomplished soon after you finish installation, most tasks can be completed in the following weeks after Windows EBS is operational in your environment. Step 1: Prepare your environment Time: 3-8 weeks before deployment Duration: 8 hours 7 Tool: Preparation Wizard Disc: Windows EBS Installation Disc 1 The first step to deploying Windows EBS is to make sure that the applications, server roles, and services running in your environment meet requirements that are critical to successfully integrating the Windows EBS technologies. The Preparation Wizard assists you in analyzing your current environment and recommends changes that improve its readiness for Windows EBS deployment. Note The Preparation Wizard does not change anything in your environment. It analyzes the current environment and recommends actions you should take to resolve any issues it has found.
