SNMP Manager Configuration
Shown in Figure 27, this panel enables you to configure the DES-5600 for SNMP Management. You must configure these settings to manage the DES-5600 through SNMP.

SNMP Community String The SNMP Community String field enables you to name the SNMP Communities. For security you should change these names to help prevent unauthorized access to the DES-5600. Access Right Enables you to set the access rights that members of the SNMP Communities have. Read Only access rights mean that members of the community can view the information on the DES-5600 but they cannot make changes to the configurations. Read/ Write access rights enable the members of the community to make any changes they desire. Follow these steps to configure the DES-5600 for SNMP Management:

1. Reboot the DES-5600 to make the changes effective.
SNMP Trap Manager Configuration
Displayed in Figure 28, the panel enables you to configure the SNMP Trap Manager settings.

IP Address Enables you to enter the IP address of trap managers. SNMP Community String Enter the Community String of the Trap Managers in this field. Traps are messages the DES-5600 sends out to inform trap managers of events on the network. Trap managers are special network users who are given certain rights and access to oversee and maintain the network. This feature is available only in D-View or by using other SNMP management software. You can specify which network managers may receive traps from the DES-5600 by creating a list of IP Addresses of the authorized network managers. Authentication Failure Link Change Event
Signifies that the DES-5600 has been powered up. Authentication Failure Signifies that an addressee (or manager/ user) on the DES-5600 is not a valid user of the DES-5600 and may have entered an incorrect community name. Link Change Event Signifies that the link of a port has changed from link up to link down or vice versa. Enter the new value in the field or toggle the space bar to change the value. Reboot the DES-5600 for changes to take effect.

Switch Configuration
The Switch Configuration panel, shown in Figure 29, enables you to decide how long the DES-5600 waits for a response before an address time out.

Address Aging Control Enables or disables address aging. Address aging refers to how long the MAC Address of devices remains in the Media Access Control Table (MAC Table) of the DES-5600. This can create problems on the network if a device is moved or removed from the network. It is best to allow addresses to age out so that information in the MAC is always refreshing itself and remains accurate. Login TimeOut Enables you to determine how long the DES-5600 waits before connections time out.
